Tutor Spotlight – Adel

Adel

“My favorite thing about working with NCES
is the reward I get when I see a student explain to me
something they were initially confused about.”
— Adel

Adel started tutoring with North Coast Education Services in 2015.  A graduate of Cleveland State University, Adel has a passion for science and math and is pursuing a career in the medical field.  It seems an appropriate fit for someone whose parents were a civil engineer and a pharmacist.

Born and raised in Egypt, Adel grew up with his parents and a brother.  As a young man, Adel was very dedicated to his academics.  But, as Adel recalls, his passion wasn’t enough to guarantee a successful life.

“My parents knew that my opportunities would be limited no matter how dedicated I was due to the circumstances in Egypt and the way they were raised.  My parents…both risked their careers for my brother and I to have a better future here in the U.S.  We came to the U.S. for better opportunities and a pursuit of happiness.”

After settling down in Northeast Ohio near family, Adel continued to excel academically.  His favorite subject was physics.  As a college student, he served as senator for the College of Science and was a member of the Student Government Association (SGA).  One of his projects with the SGA was creating a medicinal garden for the university, which is still in use today.

In his senior year, Adel found his calling for tutoring.  He became a tutor for CSU and worked with one student.  Adel recalls, “As the semester went by, successful students began to bring their friends in for help.  I enjoyed the experience so much that I offered to substitute review lessons for a lecture hall containing 160+ students during the professor’s absence.”

Today, Adel tutors North Coast students and is also a full-time teacher.  His favorite subjects to tutor are science and math.  In his spare time, Adel is an avid fan of martial arts.  He has been practicing Tai Chi since he was 11 and also enjoys kickboxing, weightlifting, and spending time with his dog, Rico.

Thank you, Adel, for all you do for our students!
