12 Different Tutoring Positions
Across 7 Counties

2. Meet our minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree for all academic tutoring positions.
  • ABA tutors must have a minimum of two years of college.(see Position #6)
  • Job Coach position - college student needed. See Position #8
  • If you opt to tutor in basic math and/or reading; you must attend a math and/or reading workshop in order to meet NCES standards

3. In your cover letter, please indicate:

  • The tutor position(s) of interest (Positions 1 through 12).
  • Your geographic preference(s).
  • Your availability; day and time preference(s).

4. At the group interview (Click Here), you will be asked to indicate:

  • The tutor position(s) of interest to you (Positions 1-12).
  • Your geographic preference(s).
  • Your availability; day and time preference(s).

You will be contacted if an interview is requested.

5. If you choose Tutor Positions 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11

  • You must select a date to attend a math and/or reading workshop before you can be assigned a position.

A tutoring opportunity near your home.

WHAT: North Coast Education Services tutors children and adults in their homes or in a nearby public location.

WHEN: Set your own schedule Monday thru Sunday, most hours are after school, evenings, and weekends.  (Tutor 4 to 20 hours/week depending on your availability, location and  skills.)

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree required for all positions except Position 6 and 8.  No prior teaching experience is required.  Teacher licensure or certification, teaching experience and classroom management are a plus.  NCES seeks committed instructors that are creative, flexible, sensitive, and patient. Good communication skills a must

PAY RATE:  $16 to 19/hr - Depending on the subject, course and training required. NOTE: ABA tutors are paid $10 - $15+/hr based on experience

Tutor Positions

Position #:

# 1 Tutor reading (phonics, spelling, and comprehension), writing and study skills Reading workshop training required

# 2 Tutor basic math (computation skills, math concepts, and word problems)  Math workshop training required

#3 Tutor high school math (algebra, geometry and calculus)

 Tutor high school science (chemistry, physics and limited positions in biology) No workshop training required.

# 4  Tutor foreign language; especially Spanish and French
 Some tutors needed for Sign Language, German and Latin

 NOTE: Immediate opening for position # 4:
Akron  - Spanish tutor, 2 hr/week (Tuesday or Thursday daytime hours)
No workshop training required.

# 5  Work with children with Asperger’s, PDD or mild autism in their home 2 to 12 hours per week, working on academic curriculum.  Experience with special education, particularly autism, is invaluable. Scheduled sessions are usually during the day with the individual family. Positions become available in other Ohio cities based on individual client needs. Minimum bachelor degree required. 

Workshop training required in reading AND math, if students have basic skills deficits.

 NOTE Immediate openings for position # 5:

# 6  Work with children ages 3 to 8 with Autism. Teach Applied Behavioral Analysis or Verbal Behavior and Floor Time
4 to 10 hours per week in 2 - 2.5 hour sessions. Minimum of 2 years college required.  Prefer college major in education, speech, OT, PT, psychology, sociology, nursing, etc. Positions are available throughout Ohio, and you may be added to the list of tutors sent to families in need of ABA tutors. If inexperienced with Applied Behavioral Analysis or Verbal Behavior, or Floor Time, parents may be willing to train on-the-job. Pay rate varies by experience. (Generally $10 - $15+/hr)
 No workshop training required. Paid on-the-job training.

# 7 Work with individual students not enrolled in a school 5 to 10 hours per week.  You will be responsible for teaching all related coursework. Workshop training may be required in reading and/or math.

#8 Job Coach--Position Filled.

# 9    School programs for the 2007-2008 school year in Akron and Cleveland, Bedford, and possibly Lorain and Elyria. (other cities may be added) This includes after-school tutoring as well as weekend hours.   More details will be given at the group interview.. Reading and math training required.

#10  After School Program, Eastern inner ring suburb

NOTE: 2 Math positions open.. Reading and math training required.

Teach reading or math to 7th or 8th graders. Program is Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm (Hours and days are not flexible-must be available for all three days) Classroom management experience important.

 #11 After School Program, Cleveland’s John F. Kennedy High School
Approximately 10 tutors needed immediately for tutoring program at Cleveland’s John F. Kennedy High School, 17100 Harvard Avenue (Near Harvard and Lee). The program will be held beginning Tuesday, November 6th. Classes in reading or math will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 5 pm., for approximately 9 weeks (excluding holidays). Class size will be 2-4 students grade 9 and 10.  Tutors must be trained in RICHARDS READ or REAL Life Math to participate. Pay rate is $18/hour.  Help make a difference in these young peoples’ lives. These students are all members of the JFK Junior ROTC program.

#12  SAT and ACT Test Preparation - Most students meet one-on-one with tutors. Curriculum provided. No workshop training required.
